Labuschagne Dropped from Australian ODI Lineup Against Team India

Labuschagne finds himself omitted from Australia's three-match ODI series versus India, with high-performing Queensland teammate Matt Renshaw receiving a shock selection.

Recent Form Lead to Exclusion

Selectors dropped Labuschagne from the ODI squad following being dismissed for one in his two batting efforts during the recent series against South Africa in August. He has a top score of 47 in his last 10 ODI innings.

The 31-year-old has featured in 68 one-day internationals and accumulated 1,871 runs at an average of 34.64, but will now work towards a Test team comeback in time for the Ashes beginning in Perth on November 21.

Surprise Inclusion and Other Squad Updates

Labuschagne has shown signs of a resurgence with a score of 160 for Queensland in the Sheffield Shield this week, while Renshaw made a hundred for the Bulls in the same game against Tasmania.

The left-hander may to make his ODI debut in the upcoming series against India after last being included in an ODI squad in 2022.

Renshaw has played 14 Test matches with the most recent appearance in India in 2023 but is also hoping for a return to the Test team as Australia search for a solution to their batting top-order problems.

Bowling Additions and Injury Updates

Fast bowler Mitchell Starc is back for the ODI series against India after being rested since starring for Australia in the 3-0 Test series sweep of West Indies in July.

BBL performer Mitch Owen might get his ODI debut after being concussed in the lead up to Australia’s previous 50-over series against South Africa.

ODI captain Pat Cummins continues to be absent as he aims to recover from a spinal issue by the time to lead Australia in the first Ashes Test in November.

Team Announcement Approach and Fixtures

Australia have named a squad for only the initial two T20 matches against India with the upcoming Ashes series, although Glenn Maxwell will miss all of the five-match series due to a wrist problem sustained in New Zealand.

Mitch Marsh will captain both the ODI and T20 teams after smashing a century in the last match against New Zealand to secure a 2-0 series win last week.

“Selectors have announced a squad for the ODI series and initial two matches of the T20 series as there will be some management through the later stages of the series as players get ready for the cricket season through domestic first-class matches,” Australia chair of selectors George Bailey said.
“The majority of the T20 squad will remain together as it’s an crucial phase in the build towards the World Cup next year, however we are trying to strike a balance to ensure we simultaneously get ready certain individuals for the Test series ahead.”

Australia’s three-game ODI series against India begins on October 19 in Perth, before the rivals play five T20 internationals from 29 October.
