The alarming incident took place on the third circuit when marshals were spotted on the track as Lawson was rejoining the race following an quick visit to the pits to change his damaged front wing

Competitor's Live Reaction

Immediately after, the team's competitor Lawson spoke to his race engineer saying: "You've got to be joking? Did you just see that? I could have... killed them"

"I truly couldn't comprehend what I was witnessing"

"I exited on a new set of hards, and then I approached Turn One and suddenly there were two guys running across the track"

"I almost collided with one of them, honestly, it was incredibly risky"

Safety Concerns Raised

"Evidently there's been a failure in communication at some point but I've never experienced that before, and I haven't really seen that in the past. It's completely unacceptable"

"We cannot comprehend how on a live track safety personnel can be authorized to just sprint across the track in that manner. I have no idea why, I'm sure we'll get some form of reasoning, but it really can't happen again"

Governing Body Reviewing

The sport's regulatory authority, the FIA, is currently investigating the situation

"Subsequent to a first corner event, track officials was advised that wreckage remained on the track at the critical section of that bend" stated the FIA

"On lap three, safety personnel were alerted and made ready to go onto the racing surface and remove the wreckage once every vehicle had gone by"

"As soon as it became apparent that Lawson had made a pit stop, the orders to send marshals were withdrawn and a double yellow flag was raised in that zone"

"Our inquiry continues what happened subsequent to that time"
